Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Advanced Initiative

Doctor showing patient results on a tabletThrough the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Advanced (BPCI Advanced) Model, TMF Health Quality Institute aims to support health care providers and conveners with a voluntary, value-based payment model from the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). The BPCI Advanced Model tests whether linking payments for a clinical episode can reduce Medicare expenditures while also maintaining or improving quality of care. BPCI Advanced started on Oct. 1, 2018, for the first cohort of participants and on Jan. 1, 2020, for the second cohort of participants. The third cohort of participants started on Jan. 1, 2024, and they may participate until the BPCI Advanced Model period of performance ends on Dec. 31, 2025.

The BPCI Advanced Model supports CMMI with the design, development and maintenance of the learning system, which has helped accelerate successful outcomes by providing opportunities for sharing and collaborating on issues and methods that are critical to the organizations participating in bundled payment models. TMF develops and facilitates learning activities in which high-performing organizations share their processes and approaches through several modalities, including affinity groups, action groups, change packages and case studies.
