Healthcare-Associated Infections

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed changes to both the Quality Innovation Network Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) and the Hospital Engagement Network (HEN) programs.

In May 2016, CMS solicited proposals to establish Hospital Improvement and Innovation Networks (HIINs) across the country. The newly formed HINNs will be integrated with the QIN-QIO program. This is consistent with CMS' intention to maximize the strengths of the QIO program and the national Partnership for Patients HENs to achieve goals in the areas of patient safety and readmissions.

Effective Sept. 30, 2016, the TMF QIN-QIO and other QIN-QIOs across the country will no longer be contracted to offer assistance to hospitals on healthcare-associated infection (HAI) prevention and reduction. These services will continue under the umbrella of the QIO program; however, the work will be led by the HIINs.

The TMF QIN-QIO team will work with the HIINs in each state and territory to foster a smooth transition and offer resources and assistance to best support HAI prevention efforts currently underway. If you are not currently associated with a HEN, email HAInetwork@tmf.org to ask to be connected with a newly named HIIN in your area.
