Texas Health Care Leader Establishes Charitable Foundation for Education and Innovation

TMF Foundation Created to Enhance the Delivery of Health Care Services

Austin, TX – April 2, 2013 – TMF® Health Quality Institute, a leading nonprofit health care consulting company, has established a charitable giving foundation for education and innovation to advance the delivery of health care, including technology use and inter-professional collaboration.

The TMF Foundation, a 501(c)3, will contribute to public charities and engage in activities that help health care providers in multiple settings, including hospitals, physician offices, nursing homes and home health agencies, improve care for their patients.

“The TMF Foundation allows TMF Health Quality Institute to invest in what we believe are important steps to improving health care for patients,” said Thomas J. Manley, TMF’s President and CEO. “These include efforts to improve safety in hospitals and nursing homes, reduce disparities in care among populations and manage disease through health information technology.”

Efforts supported by the Foundation may also include family- and youth-oriented diabetes prevention and self management programs, initiatives for individuals to enter health care careers, and patient engagement education.

“Alongside TMF, the Foundation will continue to seek opportunities to improve the quality and experience of health care for people in Texas,” said David E. Garza, DO, FACOFP, FAAFP, chair of the TMF Foundation board of trustees. “We are excited to expand TMF’s reach and improve more lives through the work of the Foundation.”

TMF has long focused on promoting high quality health care for patients through government and private contracts. A physician membership organization, TMF’s activities include quality improvement and medical review efforts. Since 1984, TMF has been the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Quality Improvement Organization for Texas, improving care provided to people with Medicare through cooperative efforts with the health care community.

TMF Health Quality Institute has contributed $1 million of initial funding to the Foundation, and the Foundation’s board includes former members of TMF’s board of trustees and TMF staff. The initial TMF Foundation board of trustees includes the following leaders in the health care community.
